Chaco National Historical Park

Chaco National Historical Park is located in northwestern New Mexico with the closest Four Corners town being Farmington, New Mexico. The preferred access route to the area is via Highway 550 and County Roads 7900 and 7950, which includes paved and rough dirt road.

Between 850 and 1250 AD, Chaco Canyon was a major center for Puebloan people. The monumental scale of architecture, complex ceremonial life, and social organization, make this area of ruins unlike any of its kind. What also makes Chaco unique is its ties to the homeland of several Native American cultures which include the Pueblo of New Mexico, the Hopi of Arizona, and the Navajo of the Southwest.

Chaco does offer camping, hiking and a 9 mile long paved loop that provides access to a number of Chacoan sites. Go to our featured Chaco National Park guides and outfitters links for a guided trip Download the offical Chaco Park Map (98k pdf)
